Natal/RN
Natal is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the northeastern tip of Brazil. It is known for its extensive coastal sand dunes and the star-shaped Forte dos Reis Magos, a 16th-century Portuguese fortress at the mouth of the Potegi River. North of the river, Genipabu is an area of huge dunes with a freshwater lagoon. The Via Costeira highway connects a 15 km stretch of beaches south of the fort. Located in the Atlantic Forest biome, it has ten protected areas. Natal’s cuisine is diverse. The city offers a variety of typical dishes. Handicrafts are one of the most spontaneous forms of cultural expression in Natal. One notable work is done in the Ponta Negra neighborhood, which brings together a wide variety of handicrafts from the state of Rio Grande do Norte.
